Since graduating cum laude from Saint Louis University School of Law, David has spent the past decade assisting and leading the business and legal efforts behind multi-million dollar real estate transactions, corporate lending and sale transactions, and complex commercial litigation. Working through these traditionally disparate projects has shaped his perspective on decisively planning and executing on business strategy.

David currently act as outside general counsel to companies in various industries, providing assistance on a range of issues, including strategic direction and wholistic legal advice. David currently sits on or advises multiple client boards, reviewing board and committee structure and providing advice to various board committees, including philanthropic, audit and tax, and information technology committees.

Clients have shared their appreciation of David’s understanding of strategy and decision-making across the whole organization, rather than solely on “legal” issues. He brings a fresh perspective to strategic advice, providing novel alternatives to current board topics, insight into future business, social, and legal trends, and a realistic approach to implementing multi-year plans.

In addition to David’s law practice, he and his family are invested in multiple businesses across various industries, where they put the same ideas, advice, and strategic thinking they provide to clients into practice. As an owner and board member himself, David has honed the value of strategic planning.

Shields Legal Group has continued this philanthropic theme by partnering with Communities Foundation of Texas. CFT engages with local individuals, families, and businesses to raise the quality of life in the North Texas community through various service “plug and play” projects. David currently sits on the Steering Committee for CFT’s Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy program.

Outside of the firm, David has served two years on the Executive Leadership Team of the Collin County Chapter of the American Heart and Stroke Association. He is also an active member of Dervish, a Dallas-based a men’s service fraternity. David's role model is his father, James D. Shields, Founder of SLG.

David is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
